History of the Space

How the Avenue Room became Saskatoon’s favourite venue.

A piece of downtown Saskatoon history.

Originally built in 1913 as a bank, this space has seen a variety of businesses call the location home. Most notably, the Avenue Room’s location used to be a fixture of another kind: Lucci’s Restaurant. A quaint and high-end Italian restaurant opening in the 80s, Lucci’s was one of Saskatoon’s best places to dine out for authentic Italian cuisine.

Today, the Avenue Room continues to honour Lucci’s vision of delicate decadence with their event venue. In fact, Lucci’s strikingly beautiful chandelier is still brightening the space. By restoring the original hardwood floors and terra cotta brick walls, the owners of Avenue Room have sought to remind Saskatoon of its picturesque past while introducing a modern touch.

THE VENUE’S OWNERS

The Avenue Room is owned and operated by Evelyn Riesner and Dave Denny, two individuals with different beginnings whose paths were set to collide so they could create an incredible experience like no other.

Evelyn’s passion has always revolved around food. Born in Italy, she has enjoyed a wide variety of cuisines since she was a child. Leveraging only the finest ingredients to create phenomenal dishes from scratch, Evelyn is elevating her catering company to a whole new level.

Dave was exposed to entrepreneurship from a very young age. After living in New Orleans for a time, Dave came back to Saskatoon with his wife and bought the Drinkle Building—a heritage building that houses a number of amenities, stores and restaurants.

Together, these two sought to create a one-of-a-kind event venue for Saskatoon. Today, the Avenue Room stands as a testament to their vision.
